Ikpeazu reflects on Nigeria unity, laments Ndigbo plight

Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has stressed the need for Ndigbo to think of their relationship with themselves and other ethnic groups with a view to emphasizing things that unite the country.

Governor Ikpeazu stated this at the Government House, Umuahia, Tuesday when he received in audience a delegation of Nzuko Umunna, an Igbo socio cultural group led by former Nigeria Ambassador to Switzerland, Amb. Umunna Orjiako.

He said he was concerned about the plight of Ndigbo in Nigeria despite contributing a lot to the economy of the country.

‘’Igbos have demonstrated more commitment to the unity of Nigeria more than any other race’’, he said, stating the need for mental restructuring of Nigerians such that people will have the opportunity to advance wherever they find themselves in the country, maintaining that even though fiscal federalism is good in geography, of greater importance is giving people a sense of justice, equity and fair play.

According to him, Ndigbo cannot continue to play second fiddle, pointing out that Igbos are very creative and industrious people.

He assured of the support of his administration to the visions and aspirations of Nzuko Umunna towards rediscovering the Igbo man.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Amb Umunna Orjiako said the group which is not a replication of other Igbo socio cultural groups like the Ohaneze explained that the association is a unique group of people of all ages spanning across all Igbo nationalities, noting that the intention is to rediscover Ndi Igbo and pursue their collective interest.

Amb Orjiako who said that the Igbo man built and wielded Nigeria pointed out that there is need for a handshake across Nigeria by bringing the Igbos to collaborate with the Yorubas to achieve a change in Nigeria.
