Igbo, Activists Laments His Death
The National President of Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Comrade Ucher Wisdom Dumeke, has expressed shock over the demise of Comrade Senator Uche Chukwumerije, describing it as a huge loss to Nigeria and the Igbo race in particular.
Duruke pointed out that Chukwumerije was a man, who distinguished himself at the Senate and expressed the hope that the Igbo people would get another to wear the shoes he left behind.
The Abia State Chairman of CLO, Comrade Pedro Azuogu, recounted how he featured prominently during the election that produced Prof. Joe Irukwu as the President General of OhanezeNdigbo, describing him as a dogged Igbo fighter, very outspoken politician.
Azuogusaid that Comrade Chukwumerije, in his days, as Biafran propagandist, was known for keeping hope alive for Biafrans, from the information he chummed out from his propaganda machinery.
According to the activistAzuogu: “Chukwumerije made Biafrans to believe in their invisibility as propagated by ChukwuemekaOjukwu, the Biafran warlord. He was at his best, in 1993, during the Abiola saga.
“His propaganda machinery came alive, again, when he doused every tension he served Nigeria from hitting the precipice for which Nigeria becoming history. He should therefore be regarded as one of Nigerians heroes.”
Azuogufurther noted that, “as a two-timer at the Senate, representing Abia North Senatorial Zone, his potent contributions on the red floor, helped, in no small measure, in reshaping modern day Nigeria.”
The Senate spokesman, Senator EnyinnayaAbaribe, describedChukwumerijewho, until his death, was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, as a political giant and one of the nation’s finest legislators.
Abaribe stated that: “The Senate will surely miss his erudite contributions on the floor of the chamber and his painstaking approach to committee work. Chukwumerije was, indeed, an embodiment of legislative tradition and consummate activists; democrat, who loved his people, passionately.”
He noted that Chukwumerije would be remembered for his deep love for Ndigbo, which was manifested in his relentless struggle for the total political and social emancipation of the race over the years.
