ICAN aviation chapter inaugurates five sub-committees to boost advocacy, engagement

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Aviation Chapter has inaugurated five new sub-committees as part of efforts to boost member participation, strengthen advocacy, and expand its influence within the aviation sector.

The inauguration took place at a well-attended hybrid meeting in Lagos, which drew accountants from across the country.

Mr. Ayodele Olatiregun, Chairman of the ICAN Aviation Chapter, FCA, commended the strong turnout, stressing that the new committees would play a pivotal role in enhancing collaboration and visibility.

The sub-committees, tasked with clear mandates, will focus on fundraising, university relations, advocacy, technical matters, and government relations.

According to the chapter leadership, the groups are expected to drive initiatives that will position the association as a stronger voice in advancing financial accountability and sustainability in the aviation industry.

A major highlight of the meeting was a technical session on “Key Financial Ratios and Performance Metrics in the Aviation Industry,” delivered by Dr. Olumuyiwa Adebayo, FCA.

He underscored the importance of balancing financial performance with long-term sustainability, recommending cost optimisation, data-driven investment decisions, and integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into operations.

Dr. Adebayo emphasised that aviation companies must not only focus on profitability but also align their strategies with global sustainability standards to remain competitive in an increasingly demanding business environment.

The event, which received commendation from participants, further reinforced the growing relevance of the ICAN Aviation Chapter as a hub for professional development and policy dialogue in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
