IBEDC Blames Blackout on National Grid Shortfall

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has attributed the current disruption in power supply across its franchise area to a significant reduction in load allocation from the national grid.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the distribution company explained that the drop in power availability has severely impacted its ability to meet the energy demands of its customers in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and parts of Niger, Ekiti, and Kogi states.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers that the current power outage/low supply being experienced is due to a drop in load allocation from the national grid,” the statement read.

The Disco stated that the shortfall has forced it to resort to stringent load-shedding measures to manage the limited energy received.

“Consequently, we are unable to meet the energy demands of our customers, resulting in load shedding. We appeal for your understanding and assure you that we are working with stakeholders to ensure the situation improves as soon as normal allocation is restored,” IBEDC added.

This development comes amidst recurring grid instability that has plagued the power sector in recent months.

The national grid has collapsed multiple times in 2025, leaving large swathes of the country in darkness and disrupting economic activities.

IBEDC urged customers to remain patient, promising that supply would be normalized once grid stability is achieved and allocation improves.
