I am nobody’s political godfather-Tompolo

Ex-Niger Delta militant, Mr Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, on Thursday debunked allegations that he is currently dictating the pace of political events in Delta State.
The former leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, who spoke in Oporoza during this year’s annual Gbaramatu (Amaseikumor) festival, noted that though he supports the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Ifeanyin Okowa, he would not attempt to control him if he wins next month.
Ekpemukpolo was speaking against the backdrop of insinuations that he singlehandedly picked the running mate to Okowa, Mr Kingsley Otuaro and has been the chief financier of the governorship candidate’s aspiration to rule Delta State.
“It’s not true that I’m the political father of Delta State. God is the godfather of this state and no one else. We are reaching out to youths in other regions of South west, South East and in the North. We are saying, let’s come together as a people and move this country forward’’, he said.
The popular youth leader explained that while he supports Okowa’s governorship ambition, he has no plans to dictate to him how the state should be run if he succeeds in defeating his opponents in the governorship race.
He added, “the truth is that Okowa and Kingsley Otuaro are the choice of the people of Delta state. By the grace of God they will come out victorious”.
The Gbaramatu chief denied funding the PDP campaigns, saying, “everybody knows it’s not true. I’m not funding Okowa campaign and it’s not true that I will control the state when he wins. Okowa is the choice of the people and as I told you earlier, there is no godfather in the state. We are all supporting Okowa to make sure he wins’’
The former warlord called on Nigerians to vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28th presidential election, noting that Jonathan remains the best President in the history of the nation.

“All Nigerians should vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential election while in Delta State, we should all support Okowa/Otuaro for governor because they are the best at the moment”, he maintained.
