Huriyya Lawal launches 16 days activism on GBV, unveils COWLOG in Zamfara
The First Lady of Zamfara state, Huriyya Dauda Lawal has flagged off 16 days activism on Gender Based Violence GBV and Unveiled the Coalition of Women–Led Organization (COWLOG) initiative in the state.
Launched at JB secretariat in Gusau the state capital, the First Lady described it as a movement that calls for unity, action and accountability. Gender-based violence remains a profound threat to our social wellbeing and development.
Her Excellency also recognized the commitment of the Health and Integrity for Women and Children Development Initiative (HIWOCDIN) in uniting women-led groups across Nigeria for a common purpose.
“Your work reflects a clear understanding of the realities women face. By prioritizing health, security and economic empowerment from the grassroots to the national level, you are addressing the issues that most directly shape women’s lives”. She said.
Women have a decisive role in strengthening peace and stability. I acknowledge COWLOG’s efforts to confront the challenges affecting women, children and the vulnerable, and my office will continue to support interventions that advance their wellbeing.
Also at Government House in Gusau where the 16 days activism on GBV was flagged off, Her Excellency said, we gather to launch the global campaign of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a movement that calls for unity, action and accountability. Gender-based violence remains a profound threat to our social wellbeing and development.
This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that “Digital violence is real violence.
In this fast-growing digital world, our phones, our devices and our social media platforms have become extensions of our lives. Sadly, they have also become tools for harassment, bullying, blackmail, exploitation, cyberstalking and emotional violence. Online abuse is not virtual. It causes real pain, real trauma and real harm. We must protect our people in both physical and digital spaces.
“I stand before you with a deep and unwavering commitment to ensure that women, girls, men, and children are safe, supported, and protected”.
Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal, our administration continues to strengthen social welfare, access to justice, community safety, and health systems.
Our Priorities Include; strengthening the enforcement of laws that protect survivors, supporting access to justice for victims of online and offline abuse, working hand-in-hand with security agencies to protect communities, expanding safe spaces, psychosocial support, and counselling, promoting digital safety, responsible online behavior, and cybercrime reporting and ending stigma, silence, and harmful cultural practices
As we officially flag off this year’s 16 Days of Activism, let us remember: A peaceful and progressive Zamfara depends on the safety of our women, our children and our digital spaces.
Together, we can build a state where no person suffers abuse, where justice is swift, and where every citizen lives without fear.
I wish to congratulate Aisha Abdu Gusau and all the members of COWLOG for their perseverance and dedication in ensuring that this organization is recognized and actively serving our dear state.
I remain fully committed to the protection and advancement of women, children and the vulnerable. We are ready to collaborate with credible partners who are focused on real impact. I urge NGOs and stakeholders to remain consistent, strengthen their coordination, and stay dedicated to addressing the challenges that continue to affect our communities.
Together, we can secure a better future for women, children and the vulnerable in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
