How Africa’s housing industry development is being impacted by AIHS’s narrative shift

Africa International Housing Show (AIHS)

In a groundbreaking move that has shifted the paradigm of housing discourse, the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS), the biggest industry expo on the continent, has propelled housing issues into the forefront of national dialogue, bringing it to television screens and the global stage like never before.

Before AIHS emerged, housing concerns were relegated to the sidelines, with little to no presence in television programming. However, AIHS has changed the landscape, turning housing into a national campaign and igniting passionate discussions across various platforms.

“What started as a simple idea has blossomed into a national movement,” says Festus Adebayo, Coordinator of Africa’s largest housing and construction expo, AIHS. “We envisioned AIHS to serve as a platform for advocacy, and we are thrilled with the impact it has had on elevating the discourse around housing”, Adebayo added.

Indeed, AIHS has become synonymous with professionalism in the housing and construction sector, engaging professionals, politicians, and stakeholders from over 21 countries. The show promotes affordable housing initiatives, advocates for alternative building methods and materials, and aims to reshape government and private sector attitudes toward housing.

“For those operating in the real estate sector, AIHS is like a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia,” says a participant. “It has created countless job opportunities, boosted businesses, and connected many individuals to their fortunes.”

The impact of AIHS is huge with billions of dollars in transactions and investments flowing through its platform to many people and businesses. It is a beacon for homeownership, employment, job creation, innovation, and advocacy, ushering in a new housing development, progress, and urban renewal era.

The Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) also makes a significant contribution to the economy due to the substantial influx of participants, with over 15,000 individuals converging in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Abuja, every July to attend the event. Attendees flock to the city from various parts of the world, contributing to the local economy by patronizing hotels for lodging, utilizing transportation services, and spending money on various goods and services. This surge in economic activity generated by AIHS not only benefits the hospitality and transportation sectors but also has a ripple effect on other businesses, boosting revenue streams and fostering economic growth within the region.

As AIHS continues to evolve and expand its reach, its influence on housing policy and practice is poised to grow even stronger this July being the 18th edition of the biggest housing expo in Africa, cementing its status as a driving force for change in the housing sector.

The Africa International Housing Show is not just a show; it is a catalyst for transformation, a platform for progress, and a beacon of hope for the future of housing in Africa and beyond.
