How Adamawa PDP Stormed LGs for Votes

The chances of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to reenact its political feat in Saturday’s polls by producing the three senators and other national assembly candidates in Adamawa State as it did in 2011 general polls now appear uncertain due to the recent political logjam the party found itself few weeks to the general election.
While majority of the political parties that fielded candidates across the nation are fine tuning their preparation towards the polls, the same cannot be said of Adamawa State chapter of the PDP as its stakeholders are presently in dilemma.
Keen political observers have said that the party needs to cross some big hurdles if really it wants to make any significant impact in the elections as a result of internal crisis rocking it.
The crisis surfaced after its last year’s primaries which was held in Abuja as some candidates were aggrieved which led to their defection to other platforms to actualise their dreams.
Some aggrieved persons who stayed back in the party were said to have sinister motives to work against the party’s candidates at the general polls.
Political watchers in the state are wondering what will become the future of the PDP which its founding fathers have predicted will rule the nation for the next 100 years. This is as a result of the internal crisis that engulfed the party across the nation. They are of the view that if preventive measures are not taken, it may lose some of the seats it presently occupies to opposition parties.
However, while not taking things lying low and barely 48 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan’s reconciliatory meeting with aggrieved PDP stakeholders in Adamawa State, the party is putting its acts together by embarking on the final leg of its campaign for the elections.
Leader of the party in the state and Governor, Barrister Bala James Ngillari led a massive mobilisation of the PDP strong campaign team to Girei and Song Local governments on last Monday.
At Girei, the party was received by a fairly large crows of party faithful who despite the crisis bedeviling the party still came out in solidarity for the aspiring candidates of the party.
Majority of those who spoke at both rallies in Girei local and Song local governments stressed the need for supporters of the party to bury whatever differences they have to work for the common good of the party.
Governor Ngillari told the gathering the good plans of President Jonathan for the development of the state if voted into office again. He dwelled on many federal projects already attracted to the state while assuring the more are still coming.
On the security situation in the state, Governor Ngillari narrated how the continued efforts of President Jonathan brought peace back to the state after sending the insurgents packing. He also listed a lot of the people of the state who are also in key positions in the Jonathan’s administration as a reason to vote him back into office.
At Song, the heavy presence of youths and women described as the handiwork of the party’s central senatorial candidate, Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, former minister of state for health left no one in doubt about his towering influence in the area as the fairly large turn of party faithful was ascribed to him.
On Tuesday the campaign train moved to Yola south and Fufore. However, contrary to the notion that the PDP has been deserted, the turn out at Yola South and Fufore local government areas proved otherwise as the crowd gathered in large numbers to meet the visiting campaign train.
