How 2018 was my breakthrough year- Ujomu, CEO Luckybay property

Property business is noted for its fickleness which oscillates between boom and bust, but for Ujomu Lucky Ikechukwu, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Luckybay Homes Nigeria Limited and Luckybay Estate and Properties Limited, there has never been a better year than 2018.

“When I started as a real estate broker in 2009, I started from the bottom rung of the business. But I prudently saved my earnings and was able to undertake my first project in 2013.

It was very tough because support was not coming from anywhere for me. Therefore, it took me five years to complete that first project, which was a two five-bedroom fully detached duplex. But I successfully sold it in 2018 and that was my major breakthrough,” he recounted.

Continuing, Ujomu, a native of Ibusa in Oshimili Local Government Area of Delta State, further asserted: “With the help of God, Luckybay Homes has grown into what it is today as one of the best real estate development companies in Nigeria that specializes in building affordable luxury houses.”

A trained teacher with NCE qualification, Ujomu, who by education or training is far removed from any discipline related to real estate, explained how he ended up as an entrepreneur dealing in property and real estate.

“While I was growing up, I have passion for business and my focus areas were real estate on the one hand, and oil and gas on the other hand,” he explained.

While real estate is not without its hassles, especially the vexing problem of land grabbers and the usual hurdle of availability of funds needed to turn empty land into valuable homes, Ujomu, avowed that it is a business worth taking up.

“There is no other business in the world aside from real estate, that gives you over 100% Return on Investment every year, and as for its challenges, once you are determined and with God’s grace, you will overcome them,” Ujomu said.
