House Press Corps, Media Teams Hold Retreat on Digital Governance

The House of Representatives Press Corps and parliamentary media teams Monday held a one day capacity building retreat on digital governance and legislative reporting, organised by the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs with support from Paradigm Initiative.

Speaking at the event in Abuja, Chairman of the Committee and House Spokesman, Rep. Akintunde Rotimi Jr. (Ekiti North I), said the retreat was timely as the National Assembly increasingly considers legislation on data protection, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, online safety and digital rights.

He noted that journalists and parliamentary media professionals play a critical role in shaping public understanding of Parliament and strengthening confidence in democratic institutions.

“Our values are transparency, engagement and accessibility, ensuring that legislative processes are accurately reported, collaboratively communicated and clearly understood by citizens,” Rotimi said.

He commended Paradigm Initiative for providing technical support and urged participants to actively engage in the sessions designed to improve insight and practical reporting skills on digital governance issues.
