House of Assembly election: Ondo APC describes PDP as bad losers

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as bad losers, who can accept defeat even when their failure in glaring.

The APC was reacting to claims by the PDP that they financially induced the voters to cast their ballot for them during the just concluded House of Assembly election in the state held last Saturday.

Describing the allegation as not only fraudulent, baseless, and unfounded, the state publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Alex Kalejaye said such allegation was incongruous, especially with the anti-corruption stance of the APC-led government.

According to him, “To the leadership of the APC, every election is an opportunity to gauge the party’s strength and popularity,” adding that this explains “why we always ensure vigorous, but peaceful campaigns; stating in unambiguous terms our plans and vision for the people.

“The House of Assembly election on the 9th of March emphasised the fact that the good people of Ondo State still appreciates the APC as a party that cares for the genuine development of the state.

“The election in the state was largely and reasonably fair and peaceful, except in a few local government areas.

“In Idanre for example, the wife of a former Chief of Army Staff, turned the peaceful town to a theatre of war. The entire place was militarised in the interest of the PDP.

“The result of the above was that members of APC were maimed, brutalised, harassed, intimidated, and scared away from performing a legitimate assignment.

“We call on the military command to investigate the roles played by its officers before and during the House of Assembly election in Idanre, and ensure appropriate sanctions.”

Describing the alleged Idanre episode as an illegality, the APC said it “will challenge the illegality perpetrated against its interest in Idanre and other places in the state, with a view to retrieving our stolen mandate.

“We also encourage the PDP to grow up and quit the realm of bad losers. They should learn to accept defeat without sulking; and support the sincere efforts by the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led government to enhance a solid economic growth in the state,” Kalejaye said.
