Horror As Farmer Kills Pregnant Wife for Ritual Sacrifice, Confesses to Police

A 50-year-old farmer Osamudiamen Igbinoba has confessed to murdering his pregnant wife, Mrs. Edugie Igbinoba, for ritualistic purposes.
The ugly incident occurred at Okungbon village about four kilometres from the popular Ufunmwengbe Community also known as Okada junction on Benin-Lagos road, Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
The suspect was arrested by police during a stop-and-search operation in Iguobazuwa town, the administrative headquarters of Ovia South-west Local Government Area in Edo State, when he was found in possession of fresh human body parts, including the foetus of his seven-month pregnant wife.
Mr. Osamudiamen Igbinoba was apprehended on Wednesday evening around 8:00 PM while driving along the Iguobazuwa-Okada Junction road. According to the police, Igbinoba was transporting the remains to a shrine when the officers stopped his Toyota Camry car.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Stephen Onwochei confirmed the arrest and detailed the confession made by Igbinoba. The suspect admitted to luring his 32-year-old wife to his farm in Okungbon village, where he killed her with a machete. He then opened her stomach, removed the foetus, and was to take both the body parts and foetus to the shrine as instructed by his occult group, the Ogboni Secret Society, when he was intercepted.
The suspect claimed that the spiritual head of the Ogboni Secret Society had ordered him to perform the ritual to prevent his imminent death and the loss of his job as failure to complete the sacrifice would result in his death within six days.
According to DSP Onwochei, the police investigation revealed that Igbinoba had been a member of the Ogboni Secret Society since he was 20, having been initiated by his late mother. The suspect confessed that he was pressured by fellow members to commit the murder, as his life challenges were allegedly tied to the need for the sacrifice.
The police spokesman also stated that investigators visited a shrine near Iguobazuwa town, hoping to apprehend other members of the occult group involved in similar criminal activities, but the shrine was found abandoned. Preliminary investigations suggest that Igbinoba acted alone in the murder, but a manhunt has been launched for other fleeing members of the group.
During his confession, the suspect revealed disturbing details about the Ogboni Secret Society’s operations, including the financial inducement of young women. According to Igbinoba, the group provides feeding and accommodation for pregnant women and uses their new born babies for sacrifices. He further claimed that influential figures, including politicians, were involved in the occult society and that they also funded human trafficking for ritual purposes.
“I know I’ll die for revealing their secrets because I took oath never to do so, but I had no choice. I had to tell the truth. When I joined, I had money, and no one in my community challenged me. But when I started having issues at work, it led to this tragedy”, Igbinoba reportedly stated.
DSP Onwochei confirmed that Igbinoba would be charged for the murder of his wife and that the investigation would continue to uncover the full extent of the Ogboni Secret Society’s criminal activities.
“This is a deeply troubling case. We are determined to unearth the full scale of these crimes and bring all those involved to justice”, police spokesman said.
This case and other similar ones have raised concerns about the prevalence of occultism and ritual killings in parts of Nigeria, with authorities pledging to take further action against such practices but people are yet to witness corresponding punishment for culprits.
