Holyfield boosts boxing through reality show

Four-time world heavyweight champion, Evander Holyfield, was in the country recently to help boost the development of professional boxing in Nigeria through an upcoming ‘TV Reality Show’.

Speaking exclusively to Extra Time he affirmed that he is delighted with the quality of boxers coming out of the country and was eager to use his promotional outfit to help nurture them to stardom.

Holyfield also tasked Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) to try what was practiced in United States which saw the discovery of great boxers that took the world by storm.

“I will want to see Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, try what we did in America by going back to the grassroots and catching these future champs young; then put them in Boys Clubs.

“From the Boys Clubs, they can be nurtured to stardom through dedicated educational programmes that will help them become champions.

“I’m interested in getting these future boxing champions at their tender ages, so that Nigerians will benefit from their exploits,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Bishop Adejube, CEO Bishop Entertainment Consult, further clarified the reason behind the invitation of Evander Holyfield to Nigeria.

He told Extra Time that there are plans by his Atlanta Georgia-based company to stage a ‘Reality Boxing TV Show’ in all the thirty-six states of the federation, including Abuja and added that the show is aimed at discovering talented boxers from the grassroots in the country.

“We brought Evander to Nigeria to partner with us in our bid to revive professional boxing in the country through our upcoming reality TV show.

“There are a whole lot of things to learn from the man who had been at the top of boxing globally and we felt this is the right time to do that by inviting Evander to Nigeria.

“We can also see the way and manner Evander appreciated his visit to Lagosians by donating medical facilities worth $3million to the state showing that he is ready to contribute his own quota to the development of the pugilist trade in Nigeria,” he said.

According to Adejube, the best boxer identified from the reality TV show will be snapped up by Real Deal Promotions owned by Holyfield which in turn will train the boxer to stardom.
