HIV: Prevention of mother to child transmission to save millions in Kano

Director General, Kano state Agency for the Control of AIDS(KSACA), Dr Bashir Usman has said that the Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS program would save next generation from the virus infection.

The director stated this during the closing ceremony of third batch training of 40 women of Health Workers on Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT) which lasted for three days sponsored by Saving One Million Lives For Result (SOML PforR) in collaboration with Kano state Agency for the Control of AIDS(KSACA) held at Horizon Hotel Kano.

The director general stressed that the training taught the participants on how to eliminate HIV/AIDS through screening of pregnant women as well as putting affected ones on medication, adding that support and caring during pregnancy, delivery and breastfeeding are part of global crusade against the virus .

Usman told the participants, that Saving One Million Lives Program is a great initiative endorsed by Governor Dr Abdullah Umar Ganduje.

Dr Usman said since PMCTC is a continuing program, participants are expected to train their colleagues in order to sustain it, pointing out that refusal would deprive people from getting appropriate care.

A participants,from Jido Health Clinic Dawakin Kudu, Binta Dambo said that they have learned a lot especially on new techniques for PMCTC, assuring that they would impact the knowledge to other colleagues for wider elimination of the virus in the society before the year 2030 target.
