Herbert Wigwe, other notable leaders headline 2017 SERAS CSR Awards

The Managing Director, Access Bank Plc, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, has unanimously selected for the 2017 recipient of the Sustainability Champion award, which has been widely adjudged as the OSCARS of CSR and Sustainability in Africa.
The organisers have also announced a list of notable leaders from the corporate and public sector that are billed to grace the ceremony.
Top of the list is Senator Liyel Imoke, the immediate past executive governor of Cross River State, who would deliver the keynote address.
Also expected is the former deputy governor of Lagos state during Babatunde Fashola’s tenure. She now occupies the position of senior special assistant to President Mohammadu Buhari on sustainable development goals (SDG’s), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire who is special guest and speaker at the awards.
All appears set for the curtail call on an eleventh edition of the awards that The awards process, which drew participation from far and wide based on the theme- Transformational Sustainability: From Social Responsibility to Social Impact.
The honorary category is annually given to a single individual either in the public or private sector that had made notable contributions to the furtherance of sustainable development in Africa.
This recognition is being accorded him for his role in spearheading the Access Thought Leadership conference, a platform he has used to promote sustainable solutions to Africa’s development challenges and also his having used his position in his organisation to drive the sustainable banking principles in Nigeria.
In 2016, Lieutenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, the President of Botswana, won this award. The list of previous winners also includes Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu amongst others.
The annual SERAS CSR Awards Africa, which first held in 2007, has grown to become the prime corporate awards promoting and measuring corporate social responsibility and sustainability in Africa. Key industry stakeholders rate it as the industry gold standard recognition for impactful investment in CSR and sustainability.
It is the biggest event on the CSR & Sustainability calendar in Nigeria and Africa. From inception to date, the SERAS has registered 817 entries from 137 organizations.
This edition of the awards seeks to uncover the brands that have walked their talks in the real sense and unravel the links between investments/interventions and the actual impacts of these in communities where organisations do business and the general society at large.
The award is open to large, medium and small scale, not- for- profit organizations, as well as public sector organizations. Twenty-four honors would be up for grab in line with the sustainable development goals as set by the United Nations.
In 2016, Investec Bank South Africa took home the overall prize and capped a beautiful night with multi wins in various categories while MTN and Nigerian Breweries plc emerged runner up and first runner up respectively.
The awards ceremony holds on Friday 17th November 2017 at 6pm at MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
