Henry lined up as possible Barcelona new manager

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, is among a possible list of candidates who could be named new Barcelona manager.

The Blaugrana are set to hold an emergency meeting after they were ingloriously sent packing from the UEFA Champions League following an 8-2 drubbing defeat to German side, Bayern Munich.

The embarrassing exit from the UCL has consequently spelt the end for Quique Setien, who only took over from Ernesto Valverde eight months ago.

Following a nine-year stay at North London with Arsenal, where he achieved legendary status, Henry moved to the Nou Camp in 2007 and was part of Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning side in 2009.

Henry’s managerial career has, however, not been cast in gold, particularly given a three and a half-month spell in charge of Monaco, where he recorded some very abysmal results.

Other high profile names also lined up for the job are Mauricio Pochettino, Ronald Koeman, and Massimiliano Allegri.

Pochettino is rumoured to be the favourite but his connections with cross-city rivals, Espanyol would affect his popularity; having managed the club before making a switch to Southampton in 2013.

The Argentine previously said he would never take charge at the Nou Camp but has recently disowned his earlier comments

He was shown the door by Tottenham in November despite a successful spell that saw him play an attractive brand of football that would be welcomed at Barcelona.

Koeman is another former player who is being tipped for the job.

The Dutchman scored the winning goal as Barcelona conquered Europe for the first time under Johan Cruyff in 1992.

Allegri has been without a job since leaving Juventus in 2019, but his impressive credentials during his time with the Old Lady presents him as another strong candidate.
