Gunmen disguise as dispatch riders, kill Engineer in Lagos

A gang of armed men who disguised as delivery riders to access a private residence have murdered an Engineer in Lagos.

The sad incident happened at High Castle Estate, Boys Town, Ipaja, Lagos State about 8p.m on April 15, 2023.

The victim, Engineer Olamide Abidemi, 42, with a private firm in Lagos was shot inside his apartment after his guests, a couple Mr. Stephen Ogunyiola and Mrs. Ogunyiola Rebecca, escaped by the whiskers.

Wife of the deceased Mrs. Olamide Bimbo told our correspondent that two gunmen on a dispatch bike, stormed the gate of the building, put a call to her husband who on opening the gate to receive a purported parcel was at gun point led back into his apartment.

She said that amid the operation, her husband sighted Mr. Stephen in the balcony and swiftly alerted him to run for his dear life as the gunmen were looking for him.

The deceased wife wept that Mr. Stephen Ogunyiola’s successful escape angered the invaders who opened fire on her husband killing him on the spot.

Another resident while giving his own account of the ugly incident informed our correspondent that Mrs. Ogunyiola Rebecca was making her hair in a house nearby when the gang struck.

He added that if police had responded to his distress calls, probably the hoodlums would have been confronted as they went further to ransack the apartment after the gruesome murder.

Attempts to obtain comments from Mr. Stephen Ogunyiola failed as he was said to have fled the neighbourhood to unknown location.

However, his wife Mrs. Ogunyiola Rebecca while mourning the brutal murder of their host, Engineer Olamide, said several similar attempts have been made on the life of her husband since April 5, 2022.

She recalled when similar attack in Jos, Plateau State claimed the life of her brother-in-law, one Samson Ogunyiola, 17, on November 14, 2022.

Narrating her serial ordeal further, she explained how a gang of armed men accosted them as they approached the entrance of their church in Abuja on January 19, 2023.

The Abuja aggression, she noted forced them to relocate to Lagos where late Mr. Olamide Abidemi offered them temporary accommodation.

The visibly traumatised Mrs. Ogunyiola Rebecca told our correspondent that her family’s ongoing travails started on April 5, 2022 when her now fleeing husband, Mr. Stephen Ogunyiola formally presented the Electricity Amplifying Device he invented to some investors interested in fossil fuel industry in Nigeria.

She explained that her husband’s invented device is made to reduce over dependence on fossil fuels and promotes sustainability of renewable energy and batteries as it saves undue spending on energy and transportation.

Mr. Stephen Ogunyiola was said to have rejected the monetary offer by some of the investors who expressed interest in the device.

Some policemen who were at the scene of crime during our correspondent’s visit declined comment on the attack and gruesome murder of the Civil Engineer.

Contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Lagos state police command SP Benjamin Hundeyin stated that those behind the murder will be fished out soon.

He appealed to residents of Lagos State and family of Mr. Stephen Ogunyiola to come fought with actionable information that would aid investigations.
