Gunmen attack residence of UK-based Nigerian mother, kill one in Edo

Residents of Edebiri lane in Benin wept uncontrollably yesterday when gunmen suspected to be assassins stormed the residence of a UK-based Nigerian mother, killing her younger brother in the process.

The victim, Osas Adoga, 32 it was learnt had visited his UK-based elder sister Patience Adoga when the gunmen invaded her residence at 3, Edebiri lane, Off Upper Ekehuan road, Benin City, about 8pm, Monday.

Patience Adoga was said to have successfully escaped by the whiskers exposing Osas and his aged mother to the aggression of the gunmen.

It was further scooped that Patience Adoga is in Nigeria in search of her adopted daughter who have been missing after she and her father Omogun Aigbe Raphael were reportedly attacked in 2019.

The ambush it was further scooped claimed the life of one Nosa a bosom friend of Omogun Aigbe.

Patience Adoga was said to been away when our correspondent visited her residence, yesterday.

Visibly traumatised mother of Patience Adoga and the deceased Osas Adoga, who identified herself as Madam Adoga recounted what transpired.

“We were all here in the sitting room when suddenly someone knocked on the door. My son Osas approached the door, as he interacted with the person I heard him asking for my daughter Patience, the door opened and two armed men pushed Osas inside. He tried to resist them, my daughter quickly left here, then I heard a deafening blast from one of the long guns, my son Osas went down slowly, they hurried out, afterwards, blood started gushing out from my son’s lower abdomen, I screamed for help but he died eventually.

“It all happened within few minutes, it’s a horrible moment”, she wept.

A resident of Edibiri lane told our correspondent that the assailants numbering four stormed their targets house in a red Toyota Camry car as he sighted two of its occupants went into the compound, one laid ambush at the gate while the driver remained behind the steering wheel.

“I didn’t suspect their mission because this kind of violent crime is strange in this area”, the neighbour stated.

Narrating further, bereaved madam Adoga stated that her daughter Patience Adoga had suffered several similar attempts on her life in the past which forced her to relocate to the UK with her family few years ago.

She also recounted how she lost her grandchild, Jude in January 2020 and the gruesome murder of her daughter Patience Adoga’s friend husband during similar attacks on their residence by armed men few months after.

Madam Adoga stated that her daughter Patience Adoga on escaping several attempts on her life in Edo ran to take refuge in Lagos as her host was killed in front of his son, few days on her arrival by gunmen who trailed her to the Lagos residence.

According to her, she was reliably informed that Patience Adoga’s host and his teenage son, John were watching television in the living room when the assailants struck, demanded to see Patience Adoga, who had gone shopping at the time, as the gunmen ransacked the apartment after shooting the man to death.

“Since 2019 when my daughter and her husband returned from Malaysia to establish skill acquisition centre to help unemployed youths, some persons have been after their lives attacking them wherever they choose to stay in Nigeria.

“The incessant attacks on them compelled us to seek for admission for her in the United kingdom where she has been living without her missing adopted teenage daughter Ahanor Princess Ekinadoese.

“Her coming this yuletide was to see how the family can reunite with its missing member. This attack has confirmed my daughter’s fear her attackers will soon trail and strike her and family even in the United kingdom”, madam Adoga expressed apprehension.

Contacted, the public Relations Officer for Edo State police Command SP Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the gruesome murder of one Osas Adoga, 32 at Edebiri lane, Off Ekehuan road, Benin City.

SP Nwabuzor said information at the command’s disposal indicated that his UK-based elder sister one Patience Adoga and her husband have been under several attacks even in Lagos.

While assuring that the Nigeria police force is ready to protect lives and property, he enjoined the embattled couple to thread with caution and report suspicious movements of persons, individuals or groups around their vicinity to the police for prompt action.

“We need prompt and actionable information to work with. I learnt that a formal complaints about the attacks had been lodged at some of our divisions in charge of the locus in quo, we are processing them”, the police spokesman stated.
