Guard Docked Over Alleged N2.2m Shop Burglary in Ogun

A 45-year-old security guard, Ismail Obafunsho, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing goods worth N2.2 million.

Obafunsho, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others now at large allegedly conspired to commit the offence sometime in 2025 at about 7.00 a.m. at Bells Junction area in Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices broke into a shop and stole four bags of rice, 10 packs of Indomie noodles, 10 packs of Pepsi and other valuable items valued at N2.2 million.

The prosecutor said the offences contravene Sections 390(9), 414 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.

Fadairo held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government. The case was adjourned until March 2 for a hearing.
