GSS Afikpo alumni to host annual convention July 11

The Alumni Association of Government Secondary School, Afikpo, Ebonyi, will host the 2019 World Convention from July 11 to July 14 at the school premises.

This is contained in a press release signed by Mr. David Nwachukwu, Chairman, 2019 Convention Planning Committee (CPC), and made available to newsmen on Monday in Abakaliki.

According to Nwachukwu, the four-day event will start from July 11 and end on July 14.

Nwachukwu said that old boys of the college across Nigeria and in the diaspora were expected to attend the convention.

“The CPC which has the responsibility of planning the convention is exceptionally thrilled with the level of preparation for the successful hosting of the event.

“We are also exceptionally thrilled with the support and cooperation from old boys both in Nigeria and the diaspora.

The theme of the 2019 convention is ‘Back to the Future’.

Nwachukwu said the theme reflects the spirit of going back to where it all began from.

“And to interact with the future generation of prominent scholars, professionals and eminent citizens who would impact society positively in the 21st century.”

He said that a line-up of activities had been slated to take place during the four-day convention.

“Dedication and renaming of newly renovated new house to Tagbo House, in memory of our late Principal, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Tagbo.

“Inauguration of completed infrastructural projects especially the Virtual Learning Initiative (VLI), the inauguration of assembly hall and other projects undertaken by the current administration in the state,” he said.

Nwachukwu commended the present administration for embarking on construction of a gigantic school gate and perimeter fencing of the school compound.

He commended the state government for undertaking the resurfacing of internal roads, donation of 150KVA generating set and solar-powered street light.

Chief Franklyn Ginger-Eke, a member of the CPC sub-committee in the statement, felicitated with the old boys of the college and wished them safe trip to Ebonyi and fruitful convention.

“we are proud to be hosting yet another of our annual gatherings, usually attended by old boys from different generations and from across Nigeria and overseas”, he said.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2019 World Convention will seek to aggregate a refined vision for creative partnerships, in improving quality of secondary education in Nigeria.

The partnerships will aim at adequately preparing young ones with requisite skills to meet development challenges of the 21 century.
