Group wants transparency in Melaye’s recall process

A group known as Enough is Enough Nigeria (EIE) has expressed its intention to be part of Senator Dino Melaye’s recall process that would take place on Saturday, 28 September, 2018 to ensure transparency.
Speaking at the unveiling of the citizen’s guide to the recall process under the Nigeria constitution, its Executive Director, Yemi
Adamolekun said their interest in Melaye”s case amongst others to is to ensure transparency.
She explained further that citizens have the right to recall their representatives in the National Assembly, saying it is constitutional. However, she opined that a recall can be politically manipulated if not checked with citizens’ engagement.
This, according to her requires focus, commitment, tight organisation and a structure to drive the campaign. She said the group focus is on the National Assembly because they are elected by the people.
It would be recalled that Senator Melaye’s recall process started on June 21, 2017 with signatures submitted to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Dino representing Kogi West went to court to stop the process but INEC has since continued the process.
