Group raises alarm over Okorocha’s plan to force civil servant demonstrate

A pressure group, The Good Governance Initiative (TGGI), Imo State chapter has raised an alarm over alleged plan by the state government to force civil servants to stage two-day demonstration in support of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration and condemned the stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) who were resisting governor’s attempt to impose his son in-law as the next APC flag bearer in the state in 2019.

In a joint statement issued in Owerri the state capital yesterday (Wednesday) by the group state coordinator and its secretary Onwuka Nwachukwu and Declan Iwenofor respectively alleged that the governor made the planned solidarity march compulsory to all civil servants in the state and those that defied the order would be severely dealt with.

The group advised Okorocha to withdraw the alleged compulsory protest order and desist from the habit of trying to use the state civil servants as a shield whenever he had misunderstanding with his fellow politicians.

“Apart from the fact that the planned demonstration is not in the interest of the generality of the people of the state, it is well known fact that it is subject to being infiltrated by criminals and political thugs who may unleash mayhem on the demonstrators”.

The TGGI (group) therefore, warned that the state governor would be held responsible for any physical harm on any civil servant and other citizen if he (governor) ignored the advices.

“We are asking the civil servants in the state to resist this intimidation by refusing to participate in the planned demonstration. The Imo civil service has the reputation of being one of the best in the country.

It will therefore be quite tragic for Imo civil servants to succumb to this type of haranguing at a time when their counterparts in other states are being positively engaged towards, building a better Nigerian nation”.
