Group faults anti-Dogara protest in Bauchi, says demonstration a blackmail

A socio- political organization, ‘North East Youth Progressive Forum’ has faulted the protest staged by some youths and women in Bauchi State on Monday against the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara.

In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday by its Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Ladan and Secretary, Mr Bulus Gambo, the group described the protest as a plot by the speaker’s opponents to dent his image and personality.

The statement reads in part, “Dogara is the most popular and most highly successful politician at the moment, not only in Bauchi State but in the whole of North Eastern Region, but unfortunately some desperate politicians engaged the services of some hopeless and unscrupulous youths and women to stage a rally in Bauchi town in order to dent or blackmail the humble image and personality of Dogara ”

The group also alleged that there was another plot to attack their political mentor by hired thugs when he comes to the State to commiserate with victims of the two incidents.

The statement urged the security operatives in the State to provide adequate protection to the speaker whenever he comes to the state and deal decisively with political thugs, as according to the group Dogara is a peace loving political icon who can never preached violence to his supporters.

It said, “Finally, the day of reckoning is coming when the generality of the people of Bauchi State will decide their faith and future at the polling stations by using their vote to make judgement between Achievers and Opportunists”

The Daily Times recalls that a group had staged a protest against Dogara over his inability to visit the state to commiserate with victims of a recent windstorm and Azare market fire disaster for over one month.

The demonstrators who carried placards, trekked from Wunti roundabout in the State capital to Bauchi Emir’s palace and finally stopped their procession at the government house Bauchi while chanting anti -Dogara songs to vent their anger against the speaker.
