Group advocates support for FMBN boss

Following a public hearing session organized by House of Representatives on the National Housing Fund, NHF,a Non-Governmental Organisation, Media Practitioners For Development has canvassed for unbridled cooperation of all relevant stakeholders in the sector to ensure the success of Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria FMBN under the leadership of Arc Ahmed Dangiwa.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Engr. Johnson Eze, the group noted that Dangiwa as the Managing Director of FMBN has exhibited uncommon skill and commitment in positively repositioning the organization and by extension the housing sector.

The statement commend the managing director not only for appearing in person to lead a debate on what needs to be done to put NHF on the right part of sustainable development but as well for showing deep understanding of the industry and proffering workable solution in simple terms.

“ Leadership they say is by example and what Dangiwa displayed is a remarkable leadership attribute worthy of commendations” the statement added.

The group noted that Dangiwa’s revelation that banks and insurance companies have been showing utter disregard to the law establishing the NHF by not remitting the contributing fund to the scheme with emphasis on Central Bank of Nigeria,

CBN leading in withholding huge sums of money designated for the fund, all point to the fact that finance sector is pulling the scheme down.

The group wondered how any government program is expected to survive without the support of the financial sector?

Eze commended the National Assembly, specifically the House of Representatives for organizing the public hearing urging them to come up with innovative legislative interventions that would enhance the growth of mortgage institutions in the country.

They also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to exercise his executive powers in the direction of reviving the NHF especially now that the country is lucky to have a experienced and competent hand as the managing Director of FMBN noting that housing is a basic need the administration will be remembered dearly for if the existing deficit can be effectively reduced.
