Grief as late Prof. Nwosu goes home

Tears freely flowed Friday as the remains of late Prof. Humphrey Nwosu were interred in his hometown, Ajalli, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Also speaking, the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, observed that Nigeria is celebrating an icon of modern democracy who contributed immensely to the nation’s development.
Otti said, “Nigeria is celebrating an icon of our democracy and that is why I came to join my brother Prof Chukwuma Soludo to honour this great Nigerian who wrote his name in the sand of time and I pray that at the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, it would be a triumph for our brother Late Prof Humphrey Nwosu.”
During his sermon at the event, the Bishop of Aguata Diocese Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Samurai Ezeofor, lamented what he described as the hopeless fate of the Nigerian nation contending that those dreams and aspirations of the country have been shattered.

“This country has also produced men and women who would have liberated Nigeria, such as the late Prof Humphrey Nwosu. But today, professors rig elections for school dropouts and drug barons, and you say that this country will be good.
“Our politicians have bastardised our university education, and they decide who will be Vice Chancellors of our Universities, and the position of Vice Chancellor has become a political appointment.
“Prof Chinua Achebe wrote a book titled there was a country but I say there is a country and in that book our brother lamented about the lost in the country and NIgeria has lost the essence of or dreams and I don’t know if the cause is from our politicians.
“Prof. Wole Soyinka at the then University of Ife lamented that his generation is a wasted generation, while late musician Sunny Okosun asked which way Nigeria’s and one wonders what he would have sung had he been that he is alive today,” the cleric stated.
In his own message, Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma flayed Senator Adams Oshiomole over his statement during the motion for immortalization of the late sage in the Senate that the deceased annulled June 12, 1993 presidential elections.
Chukwuma said; “That statement by Oshiomole is nonsensical because
Nwosu, who conducted the June 12, 1993, election annulled by former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, served as NEC Chairman from 1989 to 1993, was buried on Friday amid encomiums from governors and other notable dignatories.”
Speaking during the funeral, the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, said the five governors of the South-East have resolved to meet with President Bola Tinubu to request for a befitting national honour for the deceased.

The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was represented at the solemn event by the Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi.
Other dignitaries include the Host and Governor of Anambra State, H.E. Prof. Charles Soludo Governor of Abia State; H.E. Dr. Alex Otti and Mr. Peter Obi. Former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives and former Governor of Imo State, H.E. Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was also present with Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu (Ikeoha); Nze Charles Onwunali, and several other notable figures.
