Grief as Gunmen Kill Toddler in FCT
Residents of Gwarimpa area of the Federal Capital Territory were last Saturday thrown into grief following the tragic killing of a toddler, Rhema Akinwunmi, who was shot dead by gunmen suspected to be members of the Izala Islamic group.
The tragedy occurred at a residence located at 20, John Horse Street in Gwarimpa in the nation’s capital about 8:06P.M on February 10, 2018.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, has condemned the act and assured the public particularly residents of Gwarimpa that an investigation is underway to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
“We are working with all relevant units to ensure justice is served. This kind of brutality will not be tolerated,” Manzah said.
According to unconfirmed reports, the victim’s mother identified as Temitope Aruwajoye, a human rights crusader sustained injuries while fleeing the attack. Residents believed she was the target of the assault due to her opposition to forced marriage.
Reports revealed that Temitope Aruwajoye has been under serious threats since her campaign against forced marriage started yielding desire results in parts of the country.
“I learnt she came in here with her husband and the little child. I have not set my eyes on her ever since because it appears the family maintains a private and isolated lifestyle.
“However, this is a heart-breaking and senseless killing that a child could be murdered in his home in such a dastardly manner”, a resident said.
