Gov. Umahi appoints additional 513 aides
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state yesterday inaugurated an additional 513 appointees drawn from the 171 political wards in the state, bringing the total number of appointees in the above category to 1, 000.
Speaking during the inauguration held at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki, Gov. Umahi urged the appointees to leave no stone unturned in ensuring their assigned tasks are judiciously executed for the overall interest of the state.
“Make up your mind to work. I expect our work will be made easier,” the governor added.
Gov. Umahi said the newly inaugurated appointees would be spread across the ministries for oversight roles, stating that “let the Ministry of Works engage them; let them supervise the total number of cement and monitor the casting process. As you are working, you are exercising your body.”
Earlier, the state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney- General, Cletus Ofoke said Ebonyi state has broken the record as the state with the highest number of appointees, stressing the need for greater productivity in their areas of deployment.
Recall that after the 2019 general elections, the governor promised to run an all inclusive government where all the political office holders would be drawn from virtually all the communities and political wards in the state.

To fulfil that promise and eliminate crony appointees, Gov. Umahi asked various stakeholders in the 171 political wards to nominate three persons for political appointment.
The nominees were inaugurated after intense screening to ensure no authentic nominees was short-changed by some power hawks.
Meanwhile, the appointees pledged their unalloyed commitment in the executing the governor’s mandate.
