Gov Mohammed cautions communities against harbouring, shielding criminals
Bauchi state governor, senator Bala Mohammed on Monday warned community leaders against harboring or shielding criminals within their domains.
The governor gave the warning during an expanded security council meeting held at the EXCO chambers, Government house Bauchi, with monarchs, security chiefs and selected cabinet members in attendance.
“We’re meeting at a time when Nigeria faces complex security challenges like banditry, kidnapping, and communal tensions,” he said.
“No state is immune to these threats, and no single institution can address them alone”, the governor added.
He warned against tolerating criminal activities, such as land sales without due process or harboring criminals, noting that, “silence in the face of crime is complicity”.
The governor reminded the traditional rulers of their roles of gathering intelligence information within their domains, preventing conflict through mediating on land, family, and communal disputes, discouraging criminality and violence as well as community mobilization to act against crime and social decay.
Mohammed who praised the state’s relative stability, attributing it to collective efforts of government and the citizens, also commended security agencies and traditional rulers for their collaboration in maintaining peace.
