Gov Ishaku inaugurates Taraba NLC Ultra Modern Secretariat, backs Govs’ Forum on Minimum Wage

Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku has officially commissioned the State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ultra Modern Secretariat Complex in Jalingo. Speaking during the inaugural ceremony held yesterday, Ishaku commended the State Executive of NLC under the leadership of Comrade Peter Gambo for their resilience in constructing such an ultra modern office complex. The Governor said on the issue of N30,000 Minimum Wage proposed for Nigeria workers that he would rely and abide by whatever decision the Governors’ Forum will take. He further urged the Labour Union to introduce Skills Acquisition and Training Programs for Nigeria Workers to make them self reliant instead of always depending on Government jobs. “I charge you, Nigeria Workers to have more creative ideas for your future”, he said. In his remarks, the National President, NLC, Comrade Ayuba Waba described Minimum Wage as a Constitutional Right of every Nigerian Worker stressing that it must be recognised as a priority. Waba said Workers’ Minimum Wage was not a privilege as N30, 000 was also not negotiable and charged the Governors to be ready to comply as soon as the Bill gets the President’s assent. Earlier in his address of Welcome, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Peter Gambo lauded Governor Ishaku for prompt payments of Taraba Workers’ Salaries and the just approved N100m for the payments of Pensions and Gratuity for Retirees in the State. Peter Gambo who used the forum to endorse Governor Ishaku’s Second term bid said he pays Workers in the State as at when due. He appreciated Governor Ishaku’s leadership style for building on the legacies of Taraba former Governor, Late Danbaba Danfulani Suntai whom he described was in high spirit to develop all the Sectors of the State.
