Gov in sacking spree of royal fathers

By Tom Garba

Governor Adamu Fintiri of Adamawa State has descended on some traditional rulers in the state, deposing three and suspending few others.

One of the affected, the village head of Tsukumu, Bazza District, HRH Lawan Salihu Zubairu, who brandished his deposition letter before Daily Times, accused the governor of using the traditional institution as ”an instrument of war to fight citizens of the state who are in his record black book.”

The letter came through the Mubi Emirate Council, the supervisor of his traditional stool, and was signed by Mathew A. Unesi for the Emirate Council.

It also ordered Zubairu to hand over all government properties in his possession.

Three other village heads from different districts were also sent home while some were queried and given specified deadline to respond to certain alleged criminal acts.

Apparently shocked by what he described as baseless allegations of “maladministration, insubordination to lawful orders to the emirate and participation in partisan politics and above all, security reports in and outside your village”, Zubairu distanced himself from all the allegations, stating that he is a good and law-abiding citizen that has never been accused of any criminal act.

He claimed that the state Government used the tool at its disposal against him and others who, he claimed, they possibly dislike ”because we stand by the truth and live by it.”

Zubairu said he has accepted his deposition as ”an act of God” and happily sees it as divine arrangement designed for him from creation.

He called on the people of Tsukumu to remain calm and never raise any accusing finger at anyone or the government.

He accused the political class of fanning embers of hatred and ”going about with lies against their enemies by misinforming the government.”

Efforts to reach to Governor Fintiri’s media aide, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, on the telephone were unsuccessful as his line was repeatedly reporting ”switched off.”
