Gov Bala constitute palliative distribution committee

Amidst biting harsh economic condition affecting Nigerian masses, Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed has set up a palliative distribution committee to distribute to the people of the state, both food and non food items.

Governor Mohammed who stated this shortly after a meeting with stakeholders at the Government House on Monday, also announced that outstanding gratuities would be settled.

He noted that the committee is to immediately commence the implementation of the federal government’s fuel subsidy removal palliative programme.

The governor who pointed out that the committee will be headed by his deputy, Mohammed Auwal Jatau, explained that the distribution committee is expected to come up with the framework of assistance to beneficiaries.

He listed some of the frame work to include; payment of allowances to civil servants, payment of gratuities and pensions to retirees and pensioners, transportation, procurement of food and non food items.

“We have set up a committee under chairmanship of my Deputy with Head of Service, Chief of Staff, representative of the Emir of Bauchi and other relevant Ministries and other stakeholders for the commencement of the implementation of the palliation programme of the Federal Government by states”, Mohammed stated.

The Governor further acknowledged that the federal government has given some money to states to ensure palliation is given to all the segments of the society as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said that the committee is to work with all the stakeholders particularly, traditional institutions to ensure transparency and justice in the distribution process.

The governor assured the people of the state that his administration will initiate a sustainable palliative programme throughout his second tenure to address emerging challenges of life.
