Out-going FCT SEB director tasks teachers on commitment to service
The outgoing Acting Director, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board (SEB), Hajiya Maryam Hassan, has charged members of staff and indeed teachers in the FCT secondary education board to be dedicated to the call of duty to mold the future of any nation. She said this while bowing out of service recently after putting in 35 years of meritorious years of service.
Speaking during an end-of-session meeting with principals, staff and students of the 57 Senior Secondary Schools under the board’s watch, Hajiya Hassan charged them not to treat governance with levity as posterity will remember the role played by the individual.
In her farewell address to the principals, Hajiya Hassan said having put in the mandatory 35 years of service, she is pleased to bow out with honour and with thanks to God Almighty for the opportunity to pilot the board’s affairs.
Hassan expressed appreciation for the support, understanding and sacrifices of the principals, teachers and staff which saw to the smooth running of the board.
Collectively, we have recorded landmark achievements within a short period because we shared the same vision,” Hassan noted.
According to the education icon, education is a great asset and the individual entrusted with it must be committed with undiluted passion to take it to the next level of efficiency, effectiveness and result-oriented activities for improvement of students’ academic performance.
She emphasised integrity and proactive nature in the discharge of one’s duty in the education sector and the need to continue to lay sound educational and moral values for students in the teaching and learning process.
Hajiya Hassan reminded them of accountability in the discharge of their duties and their part as role models to impact positively on students in their academic pursuits and make them relevant in the society.
She frowned at the nonchalant attitude of taking leadership position one is entrusted with for granted without remarkable impact on the lives of people around.
Hajiya Hassan commended the school administrators and staff for the significant support she enjoyed while at the helm of affairs of the Board and urged them not to relent in extending same to her successor.
The meeting, which was three events in one, witnessed awards to deserving principals, staff, students and teachers for their outstanding performance, loyalty, dedication to duty, honesty and punctuality, among others.
The highlight of the meeting was the unveiling of ‘Press Clips and Action in Pictures of the board from 2004 – 2017’ by SEB’s Public Relations Unit, the ‘Code of Ethics to Live By’ and Seven Blunders of the World that lead to Violence.
According to Hajiya Hassan, the publication is a welcome innovation which keeps memory alive and will continue to be a useful research and reference material for education administrators, teachers, students and other stakeholders while the Code of Ethics will guide the individual as it is high time staff embrace what is good and Godly.
Responding, former National President and the newly elected Vice-President of the FCT All-Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Hajiya Fatima AbdulRahaman and Hajiya Binta Nasir respectively, on behalf of the principals, commended the outing Ag. Director for her leadership efforts and visionary exploits in ensuring that education did not lose its values.
They noted that Hajiya Hassan created a conducive academic environment for them to achieve SEB’s mandate of providing and sustaining qualitative senior secondary schools education to FCT residents.
