“God must win”: PDP flags off Edo Gubernatorial campaign by trolling Oshiomole

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has flagged off its Edo State Gubernatorial campaign, and the party has done so with aplomb.

The party took to its official Twitter page today to share graphic images of the deputy governor thrilling a crowd at Agbede Ward 7, Etsako West LGA during the campaign tour of Edo North.

The party further took a dig at Comrade Adams Oshiomole, a former governor of the state, whose festered relationship with present Governor Godwin Obaseki has been the source of feisty dramatics within the Edo State political arena.

PDP, in a pinned tweet dated July 9, shared a video of Comrade Adams Oshiomole campaigning for Governor Obaseki during which he anointed Obaseki as one who knows the mission and target of the developmental plan for the Edo people, and who also has the capacity to accomplish this mission.

“By the special grace of God, who reads the heart, who knows the heart of men, who knows the past and the future, who knows the beginning and the end. He (God) knows that Godwin (Obaseki) has been part of the tradition.

“He knows the mission, he knows the vision, he knows the target, he knows where we are, he knows the challenges and he knows how to overcome them; to deliver all that he has promised,” Oshiomole said in the video.

Oshiomole is also quoted in the video to have taken a brutally disparaging swipe at the character of Pastor Ize Iyamu, the man he now backs, to oust Governor Obaseki from office.

“As for the other guy, Mr Ize Iyamu, he has a very interesting lifestyle. For two years, they drove him from school. Why? He carried acid and poured on the body of another student. Today, that student is deformed for life. Today, he cannot raise a family.

“Fighting is his potential, and that is why he could not go to law school.”

Towards the end of the video, Mr Oshiomole is quoted to have repeatedly chanted “God must win” and that even the devil cannot refute the fact that God, (in this context referring to Godwin Obaseki) must win.

Using Oshiomole’s own words to campaign for Godwin Obaseki is the latest episode in the recent rhetorics between the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) who have been locked in a brutal war for the State’s apex seat of power, with Governor Godwin Obaseki breaking away from the APC to the PDP in a bid to undercut his former crony who has been intensely committed to ousting him from office.
