Olajide Orodo, famously known as GMG Boss, is another emerging star in Nigeria’s broadly gifted music industry. A first timer listening to his lyrics is taken aback by his unusual musical synergy. His voice has a fluid quality to it that takes one’s breath away.
His creativity on this new project demonstrates that he is far from the so-called “One-hit wonders”, since releasing ‘Marcopolo’ which was his infamous collaboration with Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) singer, Peruzzi. The same distinct sound that was established in his debut EP ‘New Beginning’ has reappeared in his sophomore project, a four-track extended playlist (EP) titled “Way Forward.”
“Way Forward” overtook established artistes like Zinoleesky and Zlatan within a week of its May 12 release, becoming one of the most-streamed albums on Audiomack’s Afrosounds EP chart list.
The EP’s complex combination of local languages, including Yoruba, Pidgin, and English, is a prominent component as GMG Boss manages it all in a very applicable, yet enjoyable manner. Without doubt, it adds to the taste of his music, giving it a local but global appeal, particularly on the EP’s lead single, “Wassap.”
In a recent post on one of GMG’s social media channels, a video for the trending single is expected to drop shortly.
