Ghanaian Entertainers Lead Protest against Outages

Ghana’s topnotch movie stars have joined in demonstrations against power cuts, marching through the streets of Accra to demand a resolution to the ongoing energy crisis.

Van Vicker and Yvonne Nelson were the most high-profile celebrities to participate in a march Saturday in eastern Accra, the first time the stars took on the government over the issue.

They joined hundreds of other protesters who dressed in black and carried torches and lanterns to signal their frustration with the erratic power supply.

The Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry says 3,000 people had been laid off as a result of the cuts.
