Gbajabiamila Urges Digital Empowerment at HORSA Capacity Building Training

The Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has stressed the need for digital literacy and technological competence in advancing national development. He urged spouses of lawmakers to embrace digital transformation as a tool for greater community impact.

Gbajabiamila spoke while delivering a goodwill message at the Capacity Building Training organised by the House of Representatives Spouses Association (HORSA) in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) held at the National Assembly, Abuja.

He commended the leadership of HORSA, led by Hajiya Fatima Abbas Tajuddeen, for its foresight and patriotism. He described the partnership with NITDA as strategic and timely.

According to him, public service goes beyond elected office. Governance, he said, extends into communities and informal spaces, noting that spouses of public officials occupy a unique and influential position.

He described them as bridges between institutions and citizens, saying they help connect government policies with community realities.

Their moral authority and community trust, he added, give them soft power. Gbajabiamila highlighted their interventions in women’s empowerment, youth development, health advocacy, social welfare and education.

He said these efforts are not peripheral but central to national development, appreciating their role in strengthening communities and complementing the work of elected leaders.

He also saluted the wife of the House’ Speaker, Hajiya Abbas for her leadership and clarity of purpose. Speaking on the theme of the training, he said digital capability now defines competitiveness. Technology, he noted, is no longer optional but foundational to modern economies and institutions.

He linked the initiative to the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said the administration is focused on economic revitalisation, innovation and inclusive growth. Digital transformation, he added, is a key pillar of that agenda.

The Chief of Staff referenced the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. He said it is designed to equip Nigerians, especially young people, with globally competitive digital skills.

He stated that digitally empowered women leaders can drive awareness in their constituencies. “They can promote digital literacy, support young innovators and encourage responsible online engagements” he said

Gbajabiamila urged participants to see the training as more than a routine exercise, describing it as a strategic platform for empowerment and institutional strengthening.
