Gani Adams challenges govts on fulfilling its obligations to citizens
The National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, has challenged governments at all tiers to show more responsibility in meeting its statutory obligations and duties to the people in providing them with basic needs.
Adams who is also the founder and Chief Promoter of Gani Adams Foundation gave the charge at the 2017 World Humanitarian Day Commemoration which took place on Saturday 19th August, 2017 in Lagos.
The World Humanitarian Day which is global celebration was the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly which commenced in 2008.
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry with the theme ‘Protection of Civilians.
Speaking further at the event, Adams, who was recently conferred with a chieftaincy title of Agba’kin of Osogboland and was represented at the event by the Senior Programme Manager of the foundation, Deacon Obatungashe Israel Adebayo and Olumide Ojelade, reiterated his commitment and determination to always be responsive to the plight of the less privileged in the society.
He informed the gathering that, the Gani Adams Foundation spent over four million Naira every year on various empowerment programmes towards the total eradication of poverty in the society.
A former Commissioner of Health in Ogun State, Dr. Kunle lziaq Salako was the Chairman at the occasion, while The Onifako of Ifako (Obawole l) was the Royal father of the day.
Other eminent personalities at the occasion included; Hon. Wasiu Agbaje-Olomu, Legislative Leader, lkorodu West LCDA; Mr. Bola Olanrewaju, Country representative of African Child Project; Leaders from various Non- governmental organizations.
A legal practitioner, Mr Ahmed Dada Abass presented a well researched and thought provoking paper at the event.
The high point of the occasion was the presentation of food and gift items worth over two million naira to some Orphanage homes.
Among the beneficiaries were; S.O.S Children Village, lsolo; Royal Diamond Home, Ojodu; Red-Cross, lkeja, etc. Guests were entertained by cultural group of Olokun Festival Foundation.
