Fulani herdsmen’s plot to attack Enugu community uncovered

The Transitional Committee Chairman of Uzo-Uwani, Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon. Cornell Onwubuya, said at the weekend that it had discovered a plan by some Fulani herdsmen to attack Ukpabi Nimbo community in the council.
According to him their plan was to launch an attack with about 500 other Fulani herdsmen from Nasarawa state
Speaking to the Daily Times, he said the report was a credible one as it was confirmed by leaders of the Fulani community in the state.
“The news of the invasion by the Fulani herdsmen came and with investigations we discovered it to be authentic prompting us to alert all the security organs in the state.
“We did not take the report lightly as we quickly swung into action by first alerting the governor and later the Commissioner of Police, Nsukka Area Commander and also the local vigilante groups within the locality.
“We are at the moment holding a meeting with the leaders of the Fulani community to address the planned invasion of our community by these herdsmen and others said to be coming in from Nasarawa State.
Onwubuya stated that meeting was to take proactive measures to avert the planned attack in the locality. He implored leaders of the Fulani community in the state to ensure that they stopped the planned invasion by their kinsmen by all means.
Earlier in an interview, the leader of the Fulani community in Enugu State, Alhaji Haldo Saidu Baso, said having lived in Enugu State for over 33 years that he would do everything possible to avert the planned havoc by his kinsmen.
“We have resolved to talk to our people living in the state not take laws into their hands or carryout any reprisal attack even in the face of provocation.
“We would travel to Nasarawa to talk to the cattle owners and all other stakeholders to stay away from trouble in Enugu state”, he said.
He assured the TC Chairman that no community in Uzo-Uwani would be attacked as planned by the 500 said to be coming into Ukpabi Nimbo community to attack.
Also, the former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the state governor on Inter-Community Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, said the meeting was aimed at resolving the said attack on some communities in Uzo-Uwani
“I can assure you the problem will be resolved in the best possible way as all the parties are willing and ready to give peace a chance”, he said.
He also said that the leaders had agreed to travel to Nasarawa to dialogue with the stakeholders with the aim of allowing peace to rain.
