Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is currently in a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
The Punch reports that the governor was sighted walking through the corridors toward the President’s office at 5:01 p.m. on Monday, dressed in a “deep-blue long-sleeve shirt, black trousers, and a black flat cap”.
The meeting comes amidst intensifying speculation that Governor Fubara may be planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following renewed political turmoil in his state.
Just days prior, on Friday, December 5, 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.
Led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, this move has significantly shifted the balance of power in the state legislature.
The Punch also noted that minutes before Fubara’s arrival, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, was ushered in for a separate engagement with the President.
As of the time of this report, details of the discussions remain undisclosed.
