FSARS personnel must wear police uniform – Lagos CP warns
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Imohimi Edgal has warned personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), to always operate wearing full police uniform.
This warning comes on the heels of the restructuring of the SARS to FSARS by the Inspector General of Police as directed by the Presidency.
Speaking at a meeting organised to educate personnel of FSARS on the new and acceptable code of conduct, Edgal said personnel of the unit must dress in police uniform while carrying out their functions and not mufti as was the case.
At the event, which held at POWA Secretariat, Oduduwa Street, GRA, Ikeja, Edgal said the lecture was to ensure adherence and compliance with the IGP directive.
He said “FSARS personnel must restrict their role to the handling of violent crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping. They must dress in police uniform while carrying out their functions and not mufti as was the case”.
While speaking at the lecture which also had officers and men of the Anti-Cultism and Anti Kidnapping units in attendance, the CP also warned personnel never to operate in commercial vehicles.
The State Police Boss said, “I urge members of the public to alert the police leadership anytime they see people in mufti or inside a commercial vehicle operating or claiming to be FSARS operatives.
“It is no longer acceptable for FSARS personnel to operate in any other type of clothes except the full police uniform.”
Similarly, Edgal called on residents of Agungi, in the Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos, to be on the lookout for a wine colour bus with registration number EKY 841.
The vehicle it was gathered is used by some men parading themselves as FSARS officials.
The CP said, “We have sufficient grounds to believe that they are imposters.”
Meanwhile, the CP said he had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operations to inspect the FSARS cells.
“Those detained for non-violent crimes, have their cases reassigned to other investigation units at the SCIID. I directed that one other person allegedly involved in kidnapping be charged to court immediately.” Edgal stated.
