FRSC Redeploys Senior Officers, Foils Suspected Child Trafficking in Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a sweeping redeployment of senior officers across key commands nationwide, even as its operatives recorded a breakthrough with the interception of a suspected child trafficking operation in Nyanya, Abuja.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the postings take immediate effect and are designed to strengthen leadership oversight, operational delivery, and administrative efficiency. He explained that the exercise aligns leadership placements with current road safety priorities to ensure optimal use of expertise.

Among the changes, Deputy Corps Marshal Pauline Olaye has been redeployed from the Special Duties and External Relations Department to the Department of Administration and Human Resources at the headquarters, while ACM Godwin Omiko now heads SDER. ACM A. Sanusi assumes duty as Zonal Commanding Officer, RS1HQ Kaduna, and ACM M.O. Olonisaye takes charge at RS2HQ Lagos. ACM A. Umar has proceeded on a course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. Other postings include ACM J.W. Toby and ACM E. Odiete exchanging commands at RS5HQ Benin and RS11HQ Osogbo, ACM Y.A. Haruna appointed Assistant Corps Marshal, Federal Operations, ACM A.K. Odeleye-Oladayo posted to RS8HQ Ilorin, and ACM C.M. Onukwubiri redeployed as Corps Safety Engineering Officer at the National Headquarters.

While the redeployment underscores institutional restructuring, FRSC operatives in Nyanya intercepted a white Sharon vehicle suspected of transporting minors illegally. The patrol team stopped the vehicle, registered SHD 253 YU, on January 17, 2026, at the Building Materials axis. Driven by 36-year-old Nanle John, the vehicle was en route from Shendam, Plateau State, to Kaiama in Kwara State. Officers discovered 17 children crammed inside, including two concealed in the boot. The driver’s explanations were deemed unsatisfactory, and the vehicle was impounded.

Following inter-agency protocols, the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba Division was contacted, and the driver, vehicle, and rescued minors were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force. Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, ordered that the children be placed in protective custody at the State CID in Lafia and directed a comprehensive investigation to uncover any trafficking network linked to the incident.

Reacting, Corps Marshal Mohammed said the interception highlights FRSC’s responsibility to safeguard lives beyond traffic management. He commended the vigilance of personnel and the swift response of the police, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to professionalism, vigilance, and inter-agency collaboration in protecting lives along Nigeria’s highways.

The dual developments, strategic redeployment of senior officers and the foiling of a suspected trafficking attempt, underscore FRSC’s evolving role in both institutional strengthening and national security.
