Former Lagos Speaker, 48 others arrested for DSP murder

A former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Jokotola Pelumi and 48 others have been arrested for the murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Ijede area of Lagos.

The deceased, DSP Akingboju Akindele who until his death was attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit of Area N Police Command in Ijede met the fatal end when he led a team of policemen to a cultists’ hideout in the area.

Information gathered revealed that the late DSP and his team had on October 27th at about 4:30pm stormed the area during an initiation ceremony of cultists where four persons were arrested.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who briefed journalists on the arrest of the suspects, the officer and his team were ambushed after making the arrest.

Edgal said after the command got wind of the development, and policemen were mobilized to the scene where the suspects were arrested.

The State Police boss said, “Investigation into the case led to the arrest of 49 suspects including a Former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jokotola Pelumi.

“Five cultists who physically killed the DSP have confessed to the crime and his snatched AK47 buried at a waterfront in Ijede have been recovered.

“All the arrested suspects are currently being investigated at SCIID Panti, Yaba and would be charged to court soon.”
