Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in what is considered as a significant political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The shocking political defection happened place in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after several developments signalling his displeasure with what he called digression of the party from foundation principles.

Senator Adamu’s departure will be a big political loss to the APC as the former two-term governor of Nasarawa State is considered as a political heavyweight in the North Central region.

The ceremony in Keffi was reportedly attended by ADC leaders, grassroots supporters, youth groups, and political stakeholders. Party flags were raised, solidarity songs were sung, and the atmosphere reflected the historic nature of the event.

Speaking at the occasion, Adamu explained that his move was guided by principle and conscience. He criticised the APC for straying from its founding values, accusing the party of marginalising experienced members, silencing dissenting voices, and allowing internal democracy to collapse.

For the ADC, the defection is a major boost. The party gains not only a high-profile member but also a seasoned strategist with deep grassroots connections and national influence. ADC leaders welcomed Adamu, describing his entry as proof that Nigerians are increasingly looking beyond the APC–PDP duopoly.

At the time of filing this report, the APC had not issued an official response to the defection.
