Folayan Lauds Uduma, Targets Improved .Ng Registration

Mr. Sunday Folayan, the newly elected president of the Nigeria internet Registration Association (NIRA) has expressed appreciation to the immediate past president, Mrs Mary Uduma for the great work she did for the association.

Folayan, who emerged as NiRA President at the Association’s 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Lagos made this commendation during his acceptance speech.

“Thank you very much for electing me as your President for the next two years. I feel very humbled by your gesture. I must express my appreciation to the immediate Past President, Mrs Mary Nma Uduma, for the great work she did for our Association.

“She has set a very good standard for us to build upon. The idea of this newsletter for example is a very good tool for information dissemination amongst stakeholders,” Folayan said.

On the expectations from his leadership, the new NiRA President said, “Under my watch, we will strive to increase our reach as an association and also improve the quality of Registration Services and Member Services at NIRA.

“As a first step, I have proposed to the Board, in addition to our standing committees, the setup of a Stakeholders Engagement Committee that will be tasked with Interfacing with Federal Government, State Governments, the Organized Private Sector as well as the various Civil Societies, to open up our membership and services to very many more Nigerians.

“In the course of the year, we will be more visible on Social Media as we engage the population that is already online, to drive the uptake of the “.ng” brand. The goal is to make Nigerians associate with our TLD and be willing to use it.

“As your President, I am open to Ideas and Suggestions from you, so that we can make NIRA an organization that meets the yearnings of all stakeholders. I Count on your support!”

The AGM was an august gathering of NiRA Board of Trustees, NiRA Executive Board of Directors, Members, Stakeholders, Observers and the Press.

It will be recalled that Mrs. Mary Uduma, the then President of the Executive Board of Directors, chaired the AGM until the elections into the vacant positions on the Executive Board of Directors including the position of President, was conducted.

Four positions became vacant at the Executive Board of Directors level, namely the positions of President, Vice President and two Members and these were filled at the AGM.

Nominations to the vacant positions were received within the specified timelines, while the candidates presented impressive manifestos resulting to keenly contested elections.

The results of the elections unveiled Mr. Sunday Folayan as President, Mr. Muhammed Rudman as Vice President and Mr. Segun Akano and Mr. Sunday Olutayo as members.
