Focus on governance, disregard social media attacks, CCSON urges A’Ibom Gov

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (CCSON) has condemned the ongoing social media attacks targeting both Governor Umo Eno and his predecessor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
The coalition has called for an end to these campaigns, emphasizing the importance of allowing the state government to focus on its primary responsibilities of service delivery and governance.
This was revealed during a press conference on Thursday in Uyo, led by Mr. Franklyn Isong, the Coordinator of CCSON and State Director of the Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network who expressed concern that the continuous online attacks were distracting the administration from its mandate to improve public services and achieve sustainable development in Akwa Ibom State.
The controversy erupted after Governor Eno’s donation of N10 million to Precious Bodunde, a young girl from Edo State who correctly pronounced difficult English words, sparked significant criticism on social media.
Activist Fejiro Oliver called the gesture a “waste of state resources” and alleged financial misconduct, claiming that the previous administration under Governor Udom Emmanuel mismanaged state funds. Oliver further called for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate a supposed N700 billion fraud linked to the past government.

Dr. Nduese Essien, Senior Special Assistant on Documentation and Research to Governor Emmanuel, strongly rebuffed the attacks, dismissing them as “mischievous” and accusing Oliver of acting out of personal interest. Essien defended the donation, stating that it was part of Governor Eno’s broader efforts to support underprivileged individuals and young talents in Akwa Ibom State, countering claims that the gesture was misplaced.
In response, Isong urged the public and the media to focus on the state’s pressing issues rather than be swayed by unfounded online attacks.
He stated that these distractions not only hinder the government’s progress but also damage the integrity of political leadership in the state.
The CCSON leader reiterated that the government should be allowed to concentrate on fostering development, good governance, and human empowerment, free from malicious interference.
Additionally, Isong called for a fresh approach to governance across the country, urging the 36 state governors to realign their administrations with the evolving demands of their constituents. He emphasized the need for new leadership perspectives and the appointment of qualified individuals to key government positions in order to improve service delivery and governance standards in 2025.
In a final note, the CCSON expressed concern over the ongoing political tension in Rivers State. Isong urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to set aside their differences and collaborate for the greater good of Rivers State and its people, promoting peace and progress in the region.
The call by the Coalition for an end to politically motivated distractions and a renewed focus on effective governance underscores the need for unity and cooperation in Nigerian politics as the country moves forward in the new year.
