FMCA trains media practitioners on Convergence Journalism

The Convergence Journalism will be in focus as Folio Media and Creative Academy (FMCA), the capacity building arm of Folio Media Group, hosts media practitioners in the South West geo-political zone of Nigeria to a three-day critical workshop.

The workshop which kicks off today, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Lisabi Hotel, Lisabi Court Road, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is sponsored by Dangote Group, the conglomerate owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and will end on Friday, August 27.

The faculty of the workshop is made up of experts in the Media industry including Dr. Jide Johnson, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin and Dr. Victor Ogwezzy. They will expose participants to new trends in the industry and skills needed to navigate effectively in the post-Covid-19 period.

The workshop in Abeokuta is the third in the series of training hosted by FMCA for media practitioners in Nigeria. The first was held in Asaba, the Delta State capital in March while the second was held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital in July.

In a release on Tuesday, the Folio Media Group said about 60 journalists are expected to participate in the 3-day workshop which aims to improve the productivity of participants in public and private Media organisations.

Speaking, Publisher/Chairman of Folio Media Group, Mr. Fidelis Anosike, said participants will derive a lot of benefits from the workshop, adding that the Media landscape in the country and globally is changing fast and those who fail to adapt to these changes will become irrelevant as new technologies keep disrupting human endeavours, the media inclusive.

He said: “This workshop comes at a time Nigeria and the entire world are under a new normal, no thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic and also at a time new technologies are disrupting how practitioners in various industries, the Media inclusive, perform their roles. Those who fail to adapt to these changes are most likely to be left behind and this is no good news to anyone.

“In the Media industry in particular, new trends are evolving as the days come by, one of which is the coalescing of Media forms, otherwise called Convergence Journalism. The implications of this convergence journalism are what the workshop intends to expose participants to. It will also inculcate skills that will not only help participants deliver better results to their employers but keep them relevant in their chosen fields”.

Anosike urged those selected to attend the workshop to pay attention to the subjects to be treated, adding that the training will help them find better ways of doing their reportorial duties in the face of new and disruptive technologies.

He added that other training programmes have been lined up for Media and Creative industry practitioners for other geopolitical zones, adding that dates for the workshops will be announced in due course.
