Five Burnt to Death in Ogun Multiple Accident

No fewer than five persons were burnt beyond recognition and properties worth millions of naira destroyed when two trucks had head-on collision at Mowe/Ibafo axis of the Lagos/Ibadan expressway on Wednesday night.

The accident, it was gathered occurred few kilometers away from the popular Danco filling station along the axis within the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

An eyewitness said that a stationary trailer broke down by the road side which caused serious traffic congestion along the axis.

It was reported that another trailer laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol going to Sagamu from Lagos axis drove against the traffic facing on-coming vehicles to man oeuvre his way through the traffic jam around the area.

Sources at the area further told our correspondent that the third trailer laden with granite enroute Lagos from Abeokuta, in the process had head-on collision which reportedly resulted in a very big inferno at the spot.

The five people who were suspected to be occupants of the trailers including drivers and motor boys were reportedly killed while the two trailers were also gutted by fire on the spot as there was no immediate help to rescue the situation because of the huge smoke.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Commander Babtunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone interview.

The PRO explained that officers of the Corps were on ground immediately it got information of the incident to manage the traffic situation around the area.

He explained that the victims whose remains had been deposited at a Sagamu morgue were burnt beyond recognition adding that they couldn’t get the registration numbers of any of the affected trailers.

It will be recalled that exactly a month ago, seven people were sent to their early grave while 23 others were seriously injured in the same area when a trailer fell on two commercial vehicles killing all their occupants.
