The Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos has a fire outbreak at Terminal 1, according to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The agency said that its firefighting team had been called to the scene and was attempting to contain the situation in a brief statement that was uploaded on microblogging platform, X, on Monday.
“The public is being notified by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) about a fire that has broken out at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Right now, our fire department is responding and trying to keep the situation under control. There have been no reported fatalities,” the statement said.
FAAN added that as more information becomes available, more updates will be given.
Information by an airport source is that the airspace has been closed as a result of the incidents.
“The airspace has been locked. As we speak, no flight is able to take off or land. The source, who is employed by an airline at the airport, stated, “They are attempting to evacuate everyone from the airport.”
As of the time this report was filed, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage had not yet been revealed.
