The State Fire Service department said that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained but suspected it to have started from a book seller’s shop. The inferno was said to have destroyed about 30 shops and goods worth thousands of naira.
Eyewitnesses however said that the prompt response of the fire service department and a private company that assisted with its fire-fighting equipment saved the market from what would have been another major disaster.
