The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally arrested a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Ita Ekpeyong, after several attempts were prevented by the DSS officials.
The EFCC operatives, who carried out the arrest at 46, Maman Nasir Street, Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday afternoon, went in three buses and some patrol vehicles accompanied by over 20 armed policemen.
The operatives were said to have search Ekpeyong’s mansion for over two hours before leaving at about 3.20pm.
The raid occurred barely 10 months after the DSS under the leadership of the sacked DG, Lawal Daura, prevented the EFCC operatives from searching or arresting Ekpeyong despite a court order.
Multiple sources told The Daily Times that the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, ordered the raid following a meeting with the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu; and the new acting DSS Director General, Matthew Seiyefa on Wednesday.
When contacted, a top source in the Commission confirmed the development.
He simply said, “It is true that the man was arrested and quizzed by our operatives.”
But the commission was said to have granted administrative bail to Ekpeyong and released him at about 6pm.
